Job Opportunity: Research Assistant II Non-Lab, Prevention Research Center on Nutrition and Physical Activity at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (HPRC)

Job Summary

Since 1998, the HPRC has participated in drawing national attention to the need for replicable, effective strategies to improve nutrition and physical activity and prevent obesity through the use of a social-ecological perspective. Together with our community partners, the HPRC has launched groundbreaking research in a variety of sectors including schools, out of school programs, communities, clinical settings, and the policy arena. We disseminate tools and trainings within our partner communities and states, as well as nationally and internationally. Many of the projects at the HPRC include activities such as:

  • Working with researchers and key stakeholders to identify the most promising programs and policies for evaluation
  • Using a computer model of the US population and projecting Body Mass Index (BMI) changes, obesity rates, and health outcomes over time
  • Synthesizing scientific literature to estimate the likely effects of promising obesity prevention interventions on BMI dietary behaviors and physical activity
  • Integrating information on the population reach, economic costs and health effects of interventions, utilizing a structured, transparent process

Job-Specific Responsibilities

The HPRC is seeking a Research Assistant II Non-Lab to support the above. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist with data collection by helping to maintaining relevant databases, collecting and entering data, and updating data collection protocols as necessary with direction from supervisor, Project Manager and Senior Research Analyst
  • Assist in cleaning, processing, organizing and summarizing cost, physical activity and nutrition-related data using spreadsheets and appropriate software packages
  • Assist with organizing project partnerships, such as with state and local health agency project teams
  • Make periodic reports of project status to supervisor or other research team personnel
  • Assist with documenting the expected impact of selected physical activity, nutrition and/or obesity prevention interventions on health through literature reviews
  • Instruct graduate students and temporary data collectors in data collection systems and protocols
  • Performs administrative duties under project manager direction, including grant activity reporting
  • Assist Project Manager in planning and organizing project-related events and meetings
  • May process orders or invoices, or undertake other clerical and simple accounting duties under the direction of project manager and/or HPRC Deputy Director
  • Assist Project Manager in planning and implementing components of communications strategy
  • Support the development and production of manuscripts, grants, or educational materials, including training tools and resources, reviews, presentations or briefs
  • Other duties as assigned
