On November 5, 2013, CHOICES researchers presented results of a cost effectiveness analysis of four childhood obesity programs and policies in the United States.

Presented in a session titled, “Modeling the cost effectiveness of childhood obesity interventions and policies: an evaluation of methods to evaluate four strategies in the United States” moderated by Steve Gortmaker, PhD, the analyzed interventions were included:

  • Sugar-sweetened beverage excise tax (Michael Long, ScD)
  • State policy requiring minimum levels of moderate and vigorous physical activity during elementary school physical education classes (Jessica L. Barrett, MPH)
  • Potential impact of eliminating the tax subsidy of food and beverage television advertising directed at children and adolescents on BMI, dalys, and healthcare costs in the United States (Kendrin Sonneville, RD, ScD)
  • Impact and cost-effectiveness of child care center policy changes on BMI and health care costs in the United States (Davene R. Wright, PhD)
